23ste land voor wereldreizigers Bicycle Showband Crescendo

Toen fanfare Crescendo in 1960 transformeerde van een zittende fanfare naar een marcherend muziekkorps kwamen er veel optredens in Nederland. In 1969 volgde het eerste buitenlandse optreden in België. Eenmaal als fietsend muziekkorps heeft de club vele landen hieraan toegevoegd in Europa maar ook in Azië. Dit jaar zal Crescendo hier een derde continent aan toevoegen, namelijk Noord-Amerika.

Met trots kondigen we dan ook aan dat Bicycle Showband Crescendo in mei naar Amerika mag afreizen! Het zal het 23^ste land zijn wat de club gaat bezoeken.

Het zal een hele unieke reis worden, omdat de connecties met het organiserend comité enorm warm zijn voor Crescendo. Dit betreffen namelijk leden van de familie Baron. Hun voorvader Jeen Baron was namelijk de eerste dirigent van Crescendo. Hij is in 1948 geëmigreerd van Opende naar Amerika. De banden tussen de familie en de club zijn dusdanig dat het clubgebouw het BaronTheater in Opende zelfs naar ze is vernoemd. De muziekvereniging bevat zelfs nog bloedverwanten van de familie Baron.

Jarenlang is er gesproken om de club naar Amerika te halen en dit jaar zal het daadwerkelijk gebeuren. Crescendo zal afreizen naar Holland, Michigan in Amerika en zal hier optreden bij het Tulip time festival. Een festival waar het typisch Hollandse korps goed bij past. Het korps stond dan ook jarenlang op het verlanglijstje van de organisatie.

“Het Tulip time festival wordt jaarlijks georganiseerd rond het thema de tulp. Het bestaat sinds 1929 en is uitgegroeid tot het grootste tulpenevenement van de Verenigde Staten. Tegenwoordig wordt het festijn in de tweede week van mei gehouden, en duurt het acht dagen dat bol staat van activiteiten, optredens en bezienswaardigheden. Tijdens het evenement schrobben elke dag leerlingen van de plaatselijke scholen de straat en dansen ze een traditionele klompendans. Met de tulpen in bloei worden er parades georganiseerd en concerten gegeven in de stad. Bezoekers kunnen langs de Nederlandse markt en zijn er vuurwerkshows.”

Met een bijna voltallige club zal Bicycle Showband Crescendo van 10 tot 16 mei vijf dagen deelnemen aan het evenement. Hier zullen zes shows verzorgd worden en er zal deelgenomen worden aan twee grote parades dwars door de stad heen.

De organisatie heeft het nieuws in Amerika al gedeeld en tv-zender Fox nieuws klopte gelijk aan. 

Uiteraard zullen we jullie in aanloop er naartoe en tijdens de reis op de hoogte houden van dit zeer bijzondere avontuur.  

23rd country for world travelers Bicycle Showband Crescendo

When Crescendo transformed from a brass band to a marching band in 1960, the agenda got filled with national performances. Later on, in 1969, Crescendo performed in Belgium, which made it the first international performance for the marching band. Once Crescendo went from a marching band to a bicycle band, international performances followed on the continents of Europe and Asia. This year, in 2023, Crescendo will add another continent to the list, North America.

We proudly announce that Bicycle Showband Crescendo will visit the United States of America in May. It will be the 23rd country Bicycle Showband Crescendo will visit.

It is bound to be a unique trip, as the organizing committee is as enthusiastic as we are. One of the members of this committee is a descendant of Jeen Baron. Jeen Baron was the first conductor of Crescendo. 

Jeen Baron emigrated from Opende to America in 1948. The ties between the Baron family and Crescendo are still noticeable in Opende, as the club building, the Barontheatre, is named after this family. To this day, there are still a few band members who are blood relatives of the Baron family.

The talk about getting Bicycle Showband Crescendo to the United States of America has been going on for years, and now finally, this will be the year. Bicycle Showband Crescendo will travel to Holland, Michigan, and perform at the Tulip time festival. This festival is no better match than the typical Dutch bicycle band. That’s why Crescendo was on this festival’s wish list.

‘’The Tulip time festival is a yearly event about tulips, Dutch heritage, and Holland, Michigan’s community today. The festival was first organized in 1929 and has since expanded to the biggest tulip event in the United States. Nowadays, the festival is during the second week of May. These eight days contain lots of activities, performances, and attractions. For instance, visitors can stroll through Dutch markets, visit parades and concerts and watch fireworks shows. In addition, students of the local schools will clean the streets and dance a traditional clog dance. All this with lots of beautiful tulips in bloom.’’

Bicycle Showband Crescendo will be part of this event from the 10th till the 16th of May. With almost the entire band, we will perform six shows and two parades through the city center during the stay.

The organization spread the news in the USA, and within a minute, Fox News knocked on their door.
